Funding Your Care

You will need to contact your local authority in the first instance for a care needs assessment if you believe you have eligible care needs which you will be unable to fund privately

Your local authority will arrange a care needs assessment, also known as care act assessment.
If the assessment determines that you have eligible needs for support, the local authority will arrange a financial assessment.
The financial assessment will determine whether you will have to pay contributions towards your care, and if so how much you will contribute, and how much the local authority will pay towards your care.
You should be offered the option of commissioned care through the council or a Direct payment.
If you decide to opt for the local authority commissioned care, then you will be offered care support with a care provider, on the local authorities list of providers.
However, if you wish to go with a direct payments care package, then you will have greater control over how your care is delivered. You can choose the care provider you would like to deliver your care, thus giving you greater control and autonomy.
